Near was staying over at Mello's house that day. Mello had left him and Matt alone, and he decided to take a nap in his portable pet-bed (he had a much bigger one, over at Halle's). When he finally woke up, he found that Matt was nowhere to be seen, and saw that the closet was a tiny bit open - and, putting two and two together, deduced that Matt must be in the closet, probably eating Mello's shoes. Wanting to find a reason to 'tattle-tale' on the puppy, he got out of his bed and padded across the room to peek.

And, instead of seeing a closet, he saw a hallway.

Could he have taken the wrong door? He'd been to Mello's house plenty of times before. He was pretty sure he had the layout down. So... he must have stumbled across somewhere else.

After a lot of deep thought, the cat decided to plop himself down in the middle of the hallway and wait from someone to find him.
