Remorse: SEQUEL- not by the original author anonymous July 14 2008, 06:11:55 UTC
One reason for this interest in remorse-related cases is that the expressions of remorse tell us whether the person who has violated the norms of their community feels the same way about their misdeed as would someone who was law-abiding. Another reason why courts pay so much attention to remorse is the wide-spread belief that offenders who feel remorse are less likely to offend again. But these justifications for leniency lose their force if the expression of remorse is strategic or insincere rather than genuine.“Current Issues in Criminal Justice”- Richard Weisman, York University ( ... )

Redding has to sit down again, while the boy speaks.

“In case that is not sufficient, the participants have been carefully selected. One is statistically unlikely to grant parole in cases of sexual assault. The other has a niece with a speech impediment, who won’t be able to look at you without picturing her in your clutches. So on and so forth. They were difficult to find.

... and I am over the moon.

I admit, in my own head I don't think I would have had it that way. I would've had it that L pretended he didn't care about it, or even that it hadn't happened to him at all - but this is just as fitting a scenario, no, far more so. I can really see this now that it's presented. It is awesome in its own right.

In conclusion: YES.

See, I see your version as much more believable, given L is the repressed gentleman we know him as. But I was reading it and spiteful!L was coming through loud and clear and I was like 'omg, must let him out to play.' The full circle of the belief question was too pretty to resist. Since the depth of your original story left room for possible interpretations like this one.

Anyways, glad you liked it :D
