Once Near has begun his investigation into Kira and L, he requests the NPA's personnel files as well as their families. He can't help but be stricken by Light Yagami and despite the fact that he needs to find out who L is and capture Kira, it's hard for him to put the man out of his mind.

Thanks to Mello, Near figures out that Light is L, and that L, as he has known, is Kira. Near can't help the fantasies that play out in his mind now. His enemy wants to kill him, but he can't help but feel sexually attracted to him.

All this leads up to Near to speaking to L/Kira alone on the phone, Light figuring out in part that the other boy has in the drawings from Wammy's House has a crush on him. This leads to the voice scramblers turning off between the two and phone sex (lead by Light) to ensue.
