Get to your doctor a.s.a.p. I understand there's an injection you can have - I think it's a one off - which, if you get it soon enough, does a lot to minimize the worst effects. It wasn't available when my Mum had shingles, but it was when her friend across the road got it and it made a lot of difference(*). But, it's very expensive so don't let your doctor play dumb. With your history and four children, he should be reasonable.
(*) This was twenty years ago, so maybe things will have improved. I remember that speed was of the essence though.
Wishing you all the very, very best, and get well soon! Love, Alph
P.S. Love the last F.S., but I'm still not convinced about YKW. Think he's a highly intelligent Ubergoold! 8-) --
Thanks hun. Went to the doc with all the symptoms of shingles and apparently I *can't* have it because it's on more than one place on my body. I'm not totally convinced. Anyway, that means no injection. I'm going to give it a couple of days and then go back to see another doc if it hasn't gone. The only other thing it could be is a reaction to the nerve damage I already have, but it's in a feck of a weird place if it is (all over my body, including around my eye). Fingers crossed!
And thanks :-)) Appreciated your support all through FS. There *may* be a new series in the offing...
{{{{hugs}}}} Ditto-ing Alph - get thee to a doc soonest and hopefully he'll be able to give you something to take the worst of it away. Bleh. Poor thing :-(
Thanks, hun. I'm watching the skin by my eye closely. BTW, if you're in work and near a doc, could you ask if it's possible to have it at the end of more than one nerve, please? My doc says it's not possible but according to some literature I read, it is. I'm confooosed. And burning...
It can affect more than one dermatome (one nerve) but *usually* in the same place i.e. several adjacent dermatomes along the chest wall. More widespread eruptions are usually only seen in people with suppressed immune systems.
Which is a long way of saying that it's unlikely to be shingles if it's affecting more than one body area, but not absolutely impossible. Big help, right?
Thank you, hun, I appreciate it. I'm trying to figure out what the hell it is if it isn't, though. I mean, I have nerve damage (they're in one of my docs' professional opinion - and I quote - "fucked" - he's a country doc *gg*), and I get the 'burning' sensation in certain parts of my body a lot. But I've never had it in my face (you've got to admit, it's kind of unusual when all the damage is from the neck *down* *g*), or on my right hand side (rib cage, thigh, lower leg - all down the sciatic nerve in the leg and on a line with it upwards). It's my left hand side which is buggered, and it's not bothered by this at the moment. Wish I knew what it was, though, it's really p'ing me off. My face feels like I've been sunburnt - tingly, sore and itchy. Not a possibility in this country in March LOL!
I've no idea what the etiquette is, and I don't have time to find out. I've written you a very short Get Well snippet but as I'm not sure about posting it here, I've put it on my LJ. http://www.livejournal.com/users/hollyilex/ Hope you feel better soon.
