Two good books on herbalism:

The Herb Book, by John Lust. Paperback, one volume, excellent, authoritative, and tells you how to do things, not just what to do. Gives dosages.

A Handbook of Native American Herbs by Alma R. Hutchins, the pocket version of her authoritative Indian Herbalogy of North America, which is now out of print.

An herbalist whose writings have helped me: Susun S. Weed, who can be found online and in books. Ignore the bad site layout; her herbal e-zine is great, and has searchable archives for several years.

I was thinking about Linda Rago. I think she has good sense about working with an eclectic group.

A lot of this is something that could be done anywhere really. Binghamton with two rivers has lots of possibilities:-)

I hope it does go forward. I will join up! If you need suggestions for teachers for the shamanic part, talk to me. But you may already have the same people in mind.

I was thinking of you and your crew Stephanie. I know that they were looking to do some outreach at some point, so it may all work out together.
