I heard HOW DEEP KNOWLEDGE CAME TO THE CHILD JESUS by Fiona Macleod at a workshop with R.J. P.L Travers is also the author of the Mary Poppins books, and they are a far cry from the movie version (much as I like Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke)--rich in pagan and magical themes. I'm not sure if they're in print, but your library system ought to have copies. I have a set from the fifties that belonged to my sister.

I read many of the Mary Poppins books to my son with the equally subversive E. Nesbit. I had no idea of her history before reading "What the Bee Knows" but knew there was more than meets the eye. If you haven't read WTBK lay hands on it. Its like a Rosetta Stone.
