LDWS Poll

Jul 18, 2012 09:22

We mods here at dmhgchallenge have noticed a bit of a decline in participation over the past few months challenges. What the cause for the decline is, we do not know - we understand people are very busy these days, and there is also that blasphemous rumour that our fandom is slowly dying. There is also the possibility that our prompts have been less than ( Read more... )

There already is dramione_ldws, and while I don't know if they're thinking of running another round soon, I voted no for an LDWS here for that reason. If the issue is that folks are busy, an LDWS is also more of a commitment.

I have been finding the prompts quite difficult recently. 'Celtic magick' and 'Beltaine' didn't really mean much to me, and I didn't have the time to research them; 'Lucius' was a relief, being canon-based, so I didn't have to worry about the meaning, and could concentrate on the story; 'Olympic' finally made me throw in the towel, because I despise sport, and I work in London and so would rather not think about it.

Speaking personally, I would prefer prompts that refer to canon-based magic, or to canon characters, or to very general, real-world stuff, like emotions or states of mind...

I do second this opinion (: the prompts of late do require quite a bit of research and it's quite hard to spend time to do that and have to condense it all into 100 words. Something less specific would be good!

I will third this - I love writing drabbles here but haven't lately because I haven't felt inspired. Canon-based prompts or general ones based on emotions and/or holidays work better. :)

I am off to send in some prompts!

Although I put several positive answers above, I do agree that there is an LDWS comm already and we shouldn't run one here unless those mods agree to release control (i.e. aren't planning on running another one) at which time we could convince them to make you mod and run one over there.

Second, I too have noticed the dramatic drop in entries. It could be that people are busy or have left for other fandoms or just RL issues, but the prompts have been un-inspiring lately, even though I've written for them. I would love to go back to more general words.

I'm not a writer I'm a reader. I too would prefer more cannon. Also they might be busy transferring their works.

Firstly (and forgive me for this) ... what are LDWS?! What does that word stand for, and what goes on in this LDWS thingamabob? I've seen it a few times...

Secondly, I agree with the rest: The last inspiring prompt I saw was the 'Lucius' one, and still I did not commit because I AM busy with RL issues.

Just my $0.02 on the matter...

Last Drabble Writer Standing - a certain number of authors would sign up, and write for a challenge, voting goes on, and then one or more author's are eliminated based on who earned the least number of votes/who received the most 'least favourite' votes. And it repeats until you have a winner.

Yes, I'm seeing a consensus there on the prompts. xD I was starting to think that's what it was. *will have to have a modly discussion to sort this out*
