I hate being bored...

...when I have so much to do.  I really have a lot of things I could be doing right now, but I am choosing to sit here on my ass writing in this journal, which even then sounded like too much work.  :::sigh:::

I did get a fabulous new book though.  It's called "Elizabethan Pageantry" and was originally published in 1936.  It's got tons of historical ( Read more... )

"From it I have documented contemporary evidence that hoops were worn with Tudors (especially after Catherine of Aragon became Queen)"

Mind sharing the documentary evidence? Was it specific to a particular period? Was it for a masque? The older info I had found stated they wore it because of Queen Katherine of Aragon bringing it, but the newer info seems to indicate that she didn't wear it because the English didn't want to wear it. But that at one Henrician masque, the masquers wore it as part of their costume that someone wrote about. The first written contemporary document I've found was Princess Elizabeth getting hers in 1545, which is matched by her portrait, and by various portraits after hers, like Catherine Parr.

If there is info showing it before 1545 for sure, other than the masque or when Katherine first comes to England, I would love to know about it, please.

I misread a section my dear. Mea culpa. I got all kinds of excited for nothing. However, what new evidence besides "Tudor Tailor" says that Katherine did not wear the farthingale?

I believe it was Janet Arnold in QEWU, but I will also admit my brain is fried from a day at the water park with my kids, so I may be misremembering. Also want to think it was discussed in Corsets and Crinolines, but not positive. ... maybe Hayward's Dress in the Court of King Henry VIII, but that came in after I did all my research for Margo, so it may have just confirmed what the other sources mention. Bah... will look it up when brain isn't sizzling anymore, and let you know.

Janet Arnold's Queen Elizabeth's Wardrobe Unlock'd, pg 123, last paragraph at the bottom of the page.

It's a good thing I footnoted my research to Margo, or I wouldn't have found it again as easily.
