It was painful to see Clark acting like an obsessive automat. I'm glad Lex's plan backfired! He had to learn that he couldn't get whatever he wanted at any price.
It was about time for Bruce to rescue Clark. Maybe he shouldn't have caused him so much pain in doing so but it's clear that it helped Lex to realize how much he had hurt Clark in every sense.
I'm loving this story!

Part of Clark still loves Lex, and probably always will, but to force him into being something he wasn't meant a happy ending wasn't in the cards.
In a way, it's similar to Superman for Sale, except in that both men really did love each other and the magic only reinforced that.
