I swear to God every time I try to plan something out I hit a brick wall I can never cross over. But now I'm almost done with a novel that I refused to let myself plan ahead for until I hit the 2/3rds done mark.

For NaNoWriMo I do plan to coordinate my time/research, but as for the story, if I try too much and get caught up in details, I'll just crash again.

Hey, that's great! I need to actually finish a novel, and I'm hoping my NaNo one will be that one.

Yeah, I've never tried to plan as extensively as I am. I figure if I do, then I can just sit and write. I'm doing crazy research too so I don't need to worry about lizard tranquilizers and how to screen print and whether someone could be heard from in a coffin. I tend to get preoccupied with those details, and then I never get anywhere.

I've been writing 'the first draft of anything is shit' over and over to encourage me to keep going. The I need to actually finish a novel thought has plagued me so long, I just had to sit down and do it.

I intend to plan this time, but I'm not going to let myself freak out if I have to make crap up.

That's a good motto to have! I have that same thought bothering me. I've been trying to write books since junior high and I get distracted, and I just need to finish.

Cool! :D

From experience, I tend to do the same whether I plan things out or not. Last year both my novels (I... stopped halfway through and restarted >>) were based on roleplays with another Nexusite. In the past I generally start writing plot and backstory the entirety of October. This year I'm being calm and just doing a sequel of sorts to last year's work. It really depends on where you fall on the structure vs. improv scale. This year, I probably really need to sit down and get a plot-plot figured out... but a lot of the worldbuilding's done and the characters are fleshed out, so less work for me.

...in other news, subversion rocks. Much love.

Oh wow! (That just seems like so much darn fun! I need to finish a book so I can work in an established 'verse too!) Establishing it is going to be a lot of fun, too. I think part of the hardest bits is adding in backstory. How do you add it in without it seeming like it's just tossing info at the audience?

Subversion is so much fun. Because some dudes with healing factors aren't Wolverine. Some are geeky track stars with healing factors that are so slow that they might as well not have one.
