Intellectual Snob

That is right ladies and gentleman, I am an intellectual snob. You know what? I'm proud of that fact. I've got high standards for myself and everyone around me. What does this have to do with you, my faithless blog readers? Everything. I can tell you right now I've the most respect for you people right here. Most of you are writers that I would ( Read more... )

Have you been reading fanfic? That's where I notice the most distressing abuses of the English language. It's also where I often see the obstinate "I dun type good and I dun care, I'm creative!" crap that sends me directly up the wall. Netspeak and shortcut words have their place, and that is not in a fic or any kind of serious writing endeavor. And by serious I mean something you want others to read.

Hooray for English and all its wonderful, wacky rules!

Really? That is depressing. Can you provide a link? I'm a sucker for schadenfreude and self-inflicted pain.

Quick, shoot me.

^^ I agree with pherring.

And... that's a bit pathetic. Yeah. Just a... just a little bit. *motions wide amount with arms*

Viralmemory has a point as well. Badly written fanfic gives me the creeps. Seriously. I get shivers down my spine.

And the traditional "I suck at summaries just read!!!".

What gets me is how many writers honest-to-God can't spell if their lives depended on it. I mean, sure there's some stuff that I'm glad I have a spellcheck for, but should it really be necessary? People who have written full novels or have been writing for YEARS should be able to spell without having to worry about having a machine check for errors quite that much. ugh. i'm glad someone else feels similarly, though.

It always bugs me when people do that. They fool themselves into thinking that they have some form of higher intelligence when they can't even spend two more seconds, to type out every letter to a sentence. It's pathetic. It takes time to learn and grow, intellectually. And they can't even take an extra moment to type out everything.

If they call you arrogant for that, then I'm definitely arrogant and I would rather have it that way. At least I'm not one of the mass that can't form a well-structured sentence and fools him/herself into believing that they are intelligent than others.

Looking back at this though, I probably made a few errors.
