Unless Chris' (My Guide) prayer circle has more pull than they're letting on... yes.

Noooo!!! I rarely pray for folks, but I'll keep you in my thoughts (and prayers, if I remember to pray).

I've only fiercely prayed three times in my life... one of those was when my Dad went away for operation Desert Storm. I think it worked.
1, He was walking side by side with somebody, got challenged by the sentry, and the sentry's gun went off. The bullet flew between his and his friend's ears, but missed either of them.
2, His group came across a grenade... spoon off... ready to blow up... and it didn't. He decided to stop and take a picture.
3, His company accidentally drove through a mine field. Somehow, none of the mines got set off by their vehicles.

I appreciate your thoughts. I think they'll help too.

Man, this "Operation Freedom" is starting to actually hit home for me. You're the second person that I know (directly) that is being sent or is there (I have a friend that's been there for almost a year). Before, it was just something that was happening and it was mildly disturbing to hear about in the news, but now that people I actually know are involved . . . it's just surreal.

That said, good luck and I hope everything goes well. Keep me updated!

*smirks* What's amusing is that I have a sargeant who is desperate to go overseas and get his combat patch. They won't send him for some reason. The needs of the Army are a strange animal. I really hope I'm not over there for a couple years. My brother and sister graduate in 2008.

I'm sure. You will be in my thoughts on my birthday and after. Can I ask what kind(s) of things you will be doing over there?

I wish I knew. Right now I just have a unit and a date. They never tell you more than you really need to know. They're evil that way. They're transferring me to a Logistics unit, so I'm hoping it's just more paperwork.

*hugs* I hope every thing goes well for you. Would be nice if this war was finally over.

*hugs back* Even if the war were over, it's the clean-up that takes the longest. If we go in, make a mess, and leave... with no support structure in place... the countries we invade collapse and rule goes to the loudest person promising to make things better. Generally, that means another dictator, worse than the last one.

I didn't even think about that.

It was easier with Germany. They just had to let one of the other political parties take over after they removed all the Nazis. Most of these countries are the way they are because there isn't much of an alternative choice. I hope more people will think about that the next time we want to go give several countries a bloody nose over a couple of buildings.
