I just read this on Wired news and I couldn't believe what I was reading.

I heard about that. That's pretty messed up. I really started getting worried when I heard they were installing CCTV cameras in cities over in British Columbia. I don't want that sort of thing to become normal.

I'd be suspicious of this. There's been grumblings in the comments here and there that the Daily Express is more of a newsrag than a newspaper. People are so eager to jump on any story with an Orwellian slant these days that fact checking sometimes takes a back seat to reality.
