I very much like Mycroft trying to save his brother; Mycroft is very dedicated to his brother. Lestrade being under the impression that John and Sherlock communicate like normal people (in the same timeline) is bound to cause problems.
So, did Sherlock fake his death in this 'verse too?

Time travel pieces are fun. You can deal with the philosophical stuff. Mycroft and Sherlock being extensions of different views of time travel fits their personalities since they are always disagreeing.
In terms of real life, the phones seem like the most realistic method of time travel. If the neutrinos traveling faster than the speed of light works, then theoretically we could send messages back in time.
