Unexpected News. With chloeas.

Oliver had just finished cleaning up the kitchen from the breakfast dishes that he and Mia had generated that morning when he heard the front door open. Drawing in a breath, he dried his hands on the kitchen towel and tossed it onto the counter before heading out to the living room to greet Chloe and the still-unknown little girl.

"Hey," Chloe greeted quietly. He had ended up teleporting home since he had to take care of some things before the weekend and she stopped by to talk with Emil about the child and then flew back to Star City with her.

She took a deep breath and set her oversized purse on the floor, Ollie can brought the luggage with him earlier. "She fell asleep in the car," she whispered, "I'll put her to bed so we can talk."

And they had a lot to talk about.

He raised his eyebrows at that a little. "Okay." He didn't like the way that sounded at all.

She pursed her lips together and disappeared down the hallway. Taking a moment to make sure the child wouldn't wake up as she tucked her in then leaning down and pressing her lips to her forehead, her chest tightening as she pulled away.

With a deep breath, she pulled the door closed halfway before making her way back down the hall again, a blank expression on her face. She still hadn't been able to fully process what Emil had told her.

"Is everything all right?" he asked uncertainly, his hands in his pockets as he gazed at her. His heart was beating quickly in his chest because he had a feeling he already knew the answer. The blank expression on her face and the tense posture of her body told him that she was about to give him news he probably wasn't going to want to hear.

Chloe took a deep breath and rubbed her hands over her face, resting her elbows on her knees and remaining quiet for a while, "Lex used his own DNA to make her," she whispered then let her breath out and swallowed hard, "and mine."

Oliver grew completely, and utterly still, certain he'd heard her wrong. He had to have heard her wrong.

"...what?"

She sighed deeply and nodded a little, lifting her head to look at him again, "the entire research revolves around creating someone who can heal him or herself, he knew about my power so apparently he had been testing on several different subjects. He created five children, she's the only one who survived."

He opened his mouth to respond, but no sound came out, because for one of the only times in his life, he didn't know what to say. He simply sat still, staring at her with a blank expression on his face.

Her eyes widened and teared up, her jaw tightened instantly as she dropped her hand from his arm. She hadn't expect a reaction like that from him, her heart felt so tight, it physically hurt.

He forced himself to take a deep breath and let it out slowly, still not turning to face her. "Here I am, out patrolling to try and help people, keep them safe, and I can't even keep you safe."

"I'm safe now, Oliver." She whispered brokenly, tears running down her face, "but I guess I was right to think eventually, I'd hold you back."

His eyebrows furrowed at that and he turned to face her, utter confusion on his face. The moment he saw her tears, his gut tightened. "Wait, what? That's not what I meant."

"No," she said stubbornly as she wrapped her arm around him too, holding on to him tightly, "I don't want you out there." Not like this.

He held his breath for a moment, tightening his arms around her, as well. "All right."

She looked up at him, her chest still tight, "I know this is complicated," she said quietly. "And I know you didn't sign up for it," neither had she, on top of everything else they were dealing with.

Oliver rested his forehead against hers. "We'll figure it out. We always do."

She nodded slightly, brushing her fingers over his bare back, "I knew you'd get angry. I'm angry too." She whispered.

He drew in a slow breath, not quite meeting her eyes. "Right now you need to rest," he said softly.

Chloe sighed softly and nodded a little, "so do you, we have a lot to deal with tomorrow."

Oliver nodded in agreement, pressing a kiss to her forehead, and reaching down, tugging the blankets up and over them before shifting closer to her.
