The trip from Kansas to Missouri had taken a little over an hour, and thanks to the very high tech GPS tracking system in Chloe's laptop, it had only taken forty minutes to drive from the airport through St. Louis evening traffic to the motel where Michael and Mia were staying ( Read more... )

Oliver poured himself a glass of water, though he really wanted something a lot stronger. He glanced at Chloe as she came back toward him. He forced a smile that didn't reach his eyes.

Chloe let the curtain fall closed behind her and watched him for a second then stepped closer, cupping his face in her hand for a moment then moving closer and wrapping her arms tightly around him.

Mia didn't really want to fall asleep, since she still felt a bit uneasy about everything, but it had been hours since darkness had fallen and the adrenaline from the hunt had long since left her.

She drifted off quietly, her head growing heavy on Michael's shoulder.

The feel of Mia relaxing into sleep beside him had Michael adjusting so she could be as comfortable as possible. To his credit, he managed to keep himself awake for the entire ride back to Metropolis while his mind continued to wander.
