He hadn't intended to return to Kansas so soon after his last visit, but after the way their phone conversation had gone, Oliver hadn't wanted to leave things between them so strained. Although it seemed like most of the conversations they had the last couple of months were strained, he hated it.

She held her breath and flipped the monitor by the door on, not surprised to see Oliver standing there. She took a deep breath and turned away from the elevator, placing her school things over the counter, rolling her eyes at the flowers that apparently just refused to die, and made her way toward the bedroom.

A small smile touched his lips. Well. She hadn't thrown them out. That was a good sign.

How considerate of him not to do it by phone or email. She wished her had. At least it would have been easier for her to hide... whatever it was that her reaction would be. She was trying to practice not to react at all, but he had only given her two days and that just wasn't enough time.
She sighed deeply and started to take off her shoes, but stopped herself. If she had to go away for a while, at least she would have her shoes on.

He clearly meant nothing to her at all. He shouldn't have been surprised really. It didn't mean it had kept him from hoping.
But now he had his answer.
And he wouldn't be coming back.
