I've basically stopped playing tournaments for the reasons that you alluded to in your post.

As live players, we don't really get a significant sample size, coupled with some of the structural absurdia that we get, means that there is just a huge luck component.

Also, I just am running so well (hourly rate) in the side games that it's pretty much not worth my time to be getting good enough in tournaments to play them seriously. ATLARGE was my first live MTT since April of last year.

As long as my live game play is more than covering my tournaments (and my net BI return is positive), I'll keep at it.
