A class is taking a quiz.  The first sentence of the quiz says "A bunch of bok choy is being lowered down on a rope."
Student: "I can't spell bok choy.  Can I just write "BC?"

A student is turning in a report with a picture of Harold and Kumar as the title illustration.
Another student: "You can't do that, it's copyrighted"
Me: "It's okay as fair use

I don't think giving credit has much to do with fair use, generally. Plagiarism != copyright infringement.
