Sad excuse for a blog post.

Console geeks, I'd appreciate any help identifying these.

A routine haircut reminded me of something I kept meaning to ask about: hairdressers and barbers have this special sort of scissors that are kind of serrated on one blade, kind of like a comb.

What's it for? About all I know it does for my hair is create lots of split ends and not-quite ( Read more... )

Premature greying can be due to a lack of iron in the diet. I have always been anemic and have a huge grey stripe in my hair that I have had since my early teens.

Try taking a daily multivitamin with iron, or adding foods high in iron to your diet and see if anything changes. The changes take awhile to notice, but now that I finally have my crazy anemia somewhat under control, and have for a few months, I have noticed that some of my hair is actually coming back in dark.

Right, thanks. Will be trying that.

It's not that it's going noticeably grey, but more that I glance at myself in the mirror and catch something odd and take a closer look and WAIT WHAT. Happened a few times the past week now (as opposed to maybe once a year), which makes me puzzled.

I found my first gray hair when I was 16. No one notices because my hair has a lot of blonde in it. It may be a genetic thing for you too, but it skips some generations. (I got it from my great-grandmother, who gave me a lot of other things that I don't like, either.)

At any rate, don't start freaking out until your pubic hairs start turning.

What Jess said. Also, the scissors are for thinning hair, but they are probably failing at it. At a guess, I might think it's because the serrations are thinner than your actual hair strands are, which would be why they're causing splits.

Spinach is a good one for iron if you don't want to start eating lots of red meat.

When they cut my hair they sometimes use scissors with a comb edge AND a razor, to layer the hair. But I don't think that's what you're talking about. Or maybe it is, I dunno, I am clueless about these things.

That actually sounds like what it is. When the hairdresser pulls that out on me, I know it's my cue to never go back. They always want to use it to save time on cutting my hair, but they don't have enough sense to know that using a razor on my straight-as-a-board hair is a Really Bad Idea.
