"Illegal" in much the same way as posting the infamous AACS encryption key for HD-DVD is illegal.

However, considering that the information here is listed on their own site, I'm not sure why posting about it has been discouraged.

Also, it's anime-related. Specifically, anime in Singapore.

The List, cut for length. )

anime, wtf, rant

Bootleg nothing. I'm talking about the official releases from Odex.

The bootlegs actually look better.

Let's put it this way: the bootlegs you see in the US are about the same quality as the bootlegs we have in Singapore.

The official releases look worse than the bootlegs, and have worse subtitles.

Now extrapolate from that the actual quality of the official releases.

When I get back to Singapore, I am importing all my anime from the US. As far as I know, there isn't a law against that... yet.

Hm.. CCS isn't there.

Just making sure, this is merely an informational post, right? Anyone over here in the US shouldn't be in danger about the series on that list.

Informational post, yes. This has no effect on anime fans in the US.

You're the person to ask, as a fellow moe-ist.

What's all the hype about Nanoha? Am I behind the moe times by not having gotten into it yet?

Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha, like all other anime, isn't for everyone. Basically, it's a mix between shounen action and magical girls, and a fairly even mix at that.

Mostly it's popular for having cute girls unleash overpowered beams of destruction (Nanoha, for example, can vapourize a building easily, and she's not even the most powerful character, although she's probably second place among the main characters). It provides action and excitement and flashy explosions, plus cute moe eye-candy. (There's not much fanservice, but what there is tends to be concentrated, mainly in the nude transformation sequences ( ... )

Wow, dude. That is just... bizarre. So- I- what? Those anime are protected, meaning owning "pirated" copies can land you in, what, jail? But they're not licensed, so technically any copy is pirated, even the ones that go through legitimate sources?

So bizarre... O_o

Ah, that is weird. Are they even attempting to tell bloggers-like you-who don't live in Singapore to knock it off? That would be particularly surreal. I feel for those poor Singaporean bloggers. :\

So what are they going to do if you already OWN copies? Raid your house, arrest you and set your collection on fire?

This is pretty bizzare. Then again, I never quite understood policies in Singapore.
