Author’s notes: It's been a while since I updated this, but this chapter is rather long, so hopefully that makes up for it. I hope some are still interested in this story. This is for all the people who love both Doctor Who and Supernatural as much as I do. :-) And a small note, Rose isn't portrayed in the best light in this chapter, but it was necessary for the story.

In the previous chapter, Martha gets taken over by Castiel. The Doctor is not too pleased about that, of course. Dean has a demon problem and Castiel finds Sam alone and looking like a five-year old, though he still has his adult mind.

Prologue | Part One

He heard Castiel’s entrance - wings fluttering - before he saw the angel.

“Dean, let her go!”

Dean still had his hand around the demon’s neck, tightening his hold on it despite the warning.

He did a double take at the woman standing outside of the Impala.

And she was carrying Sam who yawned and said, “She’s Castiel. Different vessel…”

“Huh, okay. You really shouldn’t have brought Sam here--”

“I had no other choice. You should take better care of him.”

Before Dean could say another word, the angel with Sammy in her arms, was sitting in the backseat of the Impala.

Dean swore. “I don’t want Sam here!” He exclaimed, annoyed.

Nevermind that the demon who decided to possess some blonde chick was currently choking and didn’t seem much of a threat. But she had a laughing look in her eyes.

Dean felt that was enough reason to waste her.

“ ‘Take better care of him’ you gotta be kidding me.” Dean stopped when he noticed the demon trying to get out of his hold. “You tryin’ to get cute with me? There’s an angel in the car - you make one false move, you’re dust, got that?”

“Dean,” Cas said calmly. “You should let the demon go. She’s not here for you.”

“That’s not what she said,” he shot back. “Anyway, Sammy was being a little pain in the ass and told me to leave or he’d scream his lungs out so everyone in the area could fuckin’ hear him. Said to stop treating him like he’s five. You might be shorter than I’ve seen you in years, Sammy, but just ‘cause you still have your memories doesn’t mean you should pretend like nothing’s changed.”

Sam mumbled something that Dean couldn’t quite catch. “What was that?”

Sam looked up and said louder this time. “I said ‘You’re a jerk.’”

“Hey, if you want to deny it, kiddo, go right ahead.”

“Don’t call me kiddo!”

“Looked at yourself in the mirror lately?”

“Dean, you’re not helping,” Castiel cut in.

Several things happened at once.

She could feel Sam trembling in her arms. “I think something’s wrong,” he whispered.

Dean noticed Sam’s distressed look and shifted some of his attention away from maintaining the tight hold on the demon.

“Sam? What is it?”

The demon, grinning, took advantage of the hunter’s distraction. She whipped out a knife and stuck it at his throat.

“Dean!” Sam cried.

“Martha Jones,” the demon said, now looking at Castiel in Martha’s body. “What would that alien friend think, hmmm? Two of his companions - an angel and a demon.”

“Why should this be of concern to me?” Cas asked.

The demon pushed the blade in a little more into Dean’s skin, enough to draw blood but not to kill.

She felt satisfied when she saw the angel glare at her, her eyes spelling a nasty revenge if she didn’t pull back.

Angels were soldiers after all - even the ones who were no better than grunts like Castiel. She was feeling bored, so she didn’t care one bit what one little angel could do to her. The Archangels were the big bullies on the playground, everyone knew that.

“You see, there’s a theory,” she continued. “Maybe, just maybe - because she suffered more, she was a sad, little soldier, a martyr - that you chose her.”

“You don’t know what you’re talking about. You know what I could do to you. If you hurt him, I will not let that go.”

“Let Dean go! You bitch!” Sam interrupted with a cry.

The demon smiled knowingly. “Oh, of course not. Right. But you can’t kill me. The Doctor would be upset. His precious Rose dead.”

"There’s a big picture here and you’re not in it. Neither is Rose Tyler.”

“So you do know her?”

The angel shrugged. “Just a scan of my vessel’s thoughts and memories. It’s perfunctory. You demons just possess anyone you like, but we do things differently. We care.”

The other laughed mirthlessly. “Oh no, the only one you truly care about is the man I have under the knife right now.”

“He’s important, yes.”

“That’s all then?”

“We should settle this somewhere else.”

Before the demon could answer, Castiel moved forward suddenly and placed her hand on the blonde’s forehead, forcing the demon essence out of her with spoken Latin.

The knife dropped unceremoniously from her grasp as the human slumped in her seat, looking exhausted; red bruises coloring her neck.

“Thanks, Cas,” Dean said.

The angel nodded. “Look after Sam, okay? Something is changing inside of him.”

“What’s that supposed to mean?”

She didn’t answer him, but Dean could tell the angel knew more than she was letting on with the nervous look on her face.

Before he could call her on it, she placed her hand on the unresponsive human’s forehead and not a moment later, the two were gone.

Dean sighed. “Sammy? You all right? How’re you feeling?”

Leave it to say, upon looking at the back seat, he was shocked to find his younger brother staring at him with confusion, anxiety...

And, was that - fear?

“Who are you?” Sam demanded. His eyes were darting left and right.

He looked as if he were finding a way to escape.

Dean swore.

She woke up slowly, finding herself inexplicably bound to a chair. Though she couldn’t see the bonds holding her arms in place, she knew something was holding her when her attempts at lifting her arms proved fruitless.

She looked up and saw Martha Jones standing in front of her, but it didn’t feel like her. Something just felt different.

“Who are you then? You’re not Martha yeah?”

“No, not at the moment. She is my vessel.”

“Are you alien?”

“Not the type you’re used to. I’m an angel. I’ve brought you here to address an indiscretion you’ve made.”

“What indiscretion? I haven’t done anything wrong!”

“Do you know why a demon possessed you, Rose Tyler?”

“I don’t understand--”

“You don’t remember, but a demon did possess you. They prey on weakness.”

“I’m not weak,” she countered.

The angel looked carefully at her and said, “It is not the sort of weakness you are familiar with. Arrogance and pride - those are weaknesses too.”

“What have I done? I still don’t understand.”

“You’ve crossed dimensions when it is forbidden. You, of all people, understand the grave consequences of ripping a hole in the fabric of time and space. You should be grateful that we have repaired the damage to avert the great loss of human life.”

“I had to see him again! I wasn’t happy without him! I had to find a way back.”

“The first time you came back, Rose Tyler, the Doctor gave you his counterpart and sent you back --”

“It was not his decision to make! He didn’t ask, didn’t even consider my feelings on the matter.”

“Regardless, you should not have risked the end of the world for a comparatively frivolous desire. Arrogance, Rose Tyler.”

“How dare you! You’re not even human - you couldn’t possibly understand!”

Castiel looked down at her. She looked mad. Rose couldn’t help but be a little nervous.

“The counterpart - we all know what happened to him.”

“He was in the way. He brought his fate down upon himself.”

“You claim that I know little of humanity, but is it not against the very core of human nature to kill another human being? Do you think that is right, Miss Tyler? Do you?”

Rose didn’t say a word. She looked down, so she wouldn’t have to set eyes on the angel’s accusing face.

“I didn’t kill him.”

“But you condoned it to happen, did you not?”

Rose looked up. “I really don’t want to talk about this. Why don’t we just talk about my punishment? I’m guessing that’s why you have me bound here. I’ve done something wrong, now just get on with it, all right?”

Castiel paced back and forth as she spoke, “You have two options. I can let you go, but you will remain in this universe. The door to the other universe is closed permanently. You can not see the Doctor because we will not reward you for your recklessness. The second option is you surrender. The Archangels will deal with you as they see fit.”

“I don’t like either option,” Rose muttered under her breath.

“If you do decide the first option, you must know, you will be sent to hell if you do something unfortunate --”

“Mmmhmm, like kill someone? I may be a lot of things, but I’m not a murderer.”

“Have you come to a decision?”

Rose tried to elicit some reaction from the angel, but she simply looked at her unblinkingly.

She sighed and said, “The second option. I choose the second option. Better to get it over with.”

The angel nodded.

Rose found that she could move her arms, her invisible bonds gone, which turned out to be good timing as a blinding light forced her to shield her eyes from the bright light.

The two angels who had arrived gave Castiel a grim expression.

They had come to take the human away.

Castiel looked away as the three of them vanished, the human in the middle, an angel on either side -- wings fluttering at their departure.

Though Castiel did not get properly acquainted with the blonde woman, she did feel a pang of sympathy for her situation. The punishment issued by Heaven was one best avoided at all costs. True, it was not Hell, but the punishments doled out were just as severe in Heaven as in the pit.

She hoped that she herself would never have to endure the punishment handed out by her superiors.

Castiel didn’t even blink an eye when she saw the spaceship materialize around her.

She looked around with mild interest, recalling Martha’s memories.

“And that’s your spaceship?”

“It's called the TARDIS. Time and Relative Dimension in Space.”

She looked to the Doctor when she said aloud, “It's like a box with that room just rammed in. It's bigger on the inside.”

The alien glared at her and said sharply, “Don’t, just don’t speak like her. Don’t.”

The angel stared at him and then she gave a slight nod.

The Doctor found it hard to look at her, still expecting his companion, but being so quickly disappointed upon seeing the angel’s emotionless face.

Castiel seemed to take everything he loved about her, everything that was so human about Martha and twist it into something so different, so alien that he just wished that this would be all over soon.

That Martha would get her life back. That the Doctor would have his doctor back.

“You saw Rose, didn’t you?” The Doctor prompted, already knowing the answer.

He had been tracking the angel and discovered what she had been up to while in Martha’s body.

“Yes,” Castiel answered.

“Why did you take her?”

“You of all people know what she did. You can’t turn a blind eye to these matters. You understand the gravity of the situation, Time Lord. I was under orders to punish anyone who threatened the security of this world. She should have had more regard for human life.”

“Of course she held regard for human life! You can’t say that. She cared!”

“The ability to care does not preclude foolish actions.”

The Doctor shook his head and then he abruptly changed the subject. It was the real reason why he wanted to talk with the angel after all.

“You said something about having a charge when I last saw you. If you don’t let Martha go, you understand I will have to do something about it.”

“You should have more trust in me, Doctor. I assured you--”

“My trust in people isn’t what it used to be, Castiel.”

“Very well. Do what you wish. The consequences will be on your head though.”

The angel turned away from him and then she was gone.

The Doctor stared blankly at the spot that the angel had previously occupied. He would never have thought angels would lie, but he had a feeling Castiel was leading him on.

He could see it in the angel’s eyes. She was growing attached, when she had no reason to be, to her new vessel.

The Time Lord wouldn’t let this stand as it was.

So with that, he went back to the console with a new destination in mind.

“Dean,”

The hunter whipped around upon hearing Castiel’s voice.

“Why did you go?”

“How is your brother?”

Dean nearly growled and within a few long strides, had reached the angel and pinned her against the wall of the motel he was staying at.

“I know you’re hiding something from me. Don’t lie to me, I know Sam’s memory loss didn’t just happen all of a sudden! You had a hand in it, didn’t you? It was all so coincidental, wasn’t it? I’m not going to pretend to play dumb, Cas.”

The angel appeared relatively calm whilst being restrained by a rightfully angered Dean. She knew if she just explained this the right way - everything would sort itself out.

“You must understand - the condition Sam is in would have only gotten worse if he had kept his adult memories with him. His smaller body isn’t meant to carry that kind of weight, that burden of memories. He would have caught a fever that would have never quit and then he would have died too fast for a remedy to be procured. I couldn’t let that happen.”

“And do you know what the cure is? How to get Sam back to normal?”

Castiel considered telling his charge the truth: Sam had to willingly put himself in danger to protect Dean before Sam would be back to normal.

But she decided against it. Dean had enough worries now to add that to his plate…

“You just have to take good care of him. The curse will be lifted in due time.”

Dean looked at her incredulously. “That’s it? What kind of ‘cure’ is that? How long will it take? I always look out for Sam. I’ve been doing that all my life, Cas. You know that - what the hell am I supposed to do differently?”

“Just keep doing what you’re doing. Trust me, it’ll all work out. The spell wasn’t particularly strong.”

An awkward, uncomfortable silence followed.

Only the rustling of the sheets by a five-year old Sam as he changed positions in bed was heard.

“So how did you get Sam to trust you?”

“I told him the truth,” Dean said, shrugging. Though his face belied the disbelief he felt at making Sam trust him so easily. “He believed me.”

“Oh, okay.”

“Cas?”

“Yes?”

“I want to see her. The person you’re using as a vessel. I want to meet her - know her.”

“Dean - I can’t go back in time on a whim like this. Bending time is not easy. It’s not to be done at the drop of a hat.”

“Cas, please.” Dean turned pleading eyes toward the angel.

“No, I’m sorry. I’m sorry, Dean, but I can not do this for you.”

“She’s a human being, Cas. This is about humanity, don’t you understand? I just don’t feel right seeing this woman you’re using for your purposes - without really seeing her. Understanding who she is, who she was.”

“She consented to this,” the angel was quick to put in.

“I somehow doubt that. It was rushed, wasn’t it?”

Castiel couldn’t help the guilt that came across her face.

Then she sighed, giving in to Dean’s request. Maybe he was right.

“Before I do this, Dean, I need to tell you about someone.”

“Who?”

“There’s a man called the Doctor -- ”
