so in other words PJ does what he loves which is put in too long gratutious fightscenes over substance and invent heavyhanded changes that are worse or similar to bad and cliched fanfiction (i should know i've read and written fanfic enough though hopefully higher standard!) rather than stick t the story and accept that it is not a triliogy of background material...

Yes! That is exactly what much of the additional material feels like: fanfiction. Particularly the Kili/Tauriel subplot. It's not even good fanfic frankly. I still love certain sequences, but my wife was so disappointed and got progressively more angry as she thought about the movie that she announced that she didn't want to see Part 3 in the theatres. I will have to talk her around to going next New Years eve.

as i said i've rad plenty of tolkien fanfic and written some too (funny only fandom ive ever wanted to write in was tolkien and then mainly silmarillion) there IS such a thing as good fanfiction but it may be 2% of the fanfic written and PJ version is NOT the good kind nor is itoriginal or clever. its cliche and its horrific :P I barely sat through the first hobbit movie without throwing something through the screen, i have n temptation atm to see the second one in the cinema...and god help us he has another one to go...
