Background: When I was in the army, I was a Heavy Wheel Vehicle Mechanic. That means I got to work on diesel trucks that were 5+ tons. Very enjoyable, lots of fun. I still work on my own car for everything that doesn't require a lift.

Today, I pulled into my parents' driveway right as my car started gushing steam. My dad was there and we quickly ( Read more... )

Can I come over sometime and watch you fix your car? Just something about a beautiful woman leaning over a fender and getting greasy. *smiles*

did you smack him with a wrench?

my husband has issues with me using power tools. he's always suspicious of the results, and will actually say things like, "don't cut anything until i get home, i don't want to buy more wood." this entirely based on my lack of penis, you udnerstand.

That sucks. Have you considered threatening some of his electronics with said power tools? ;)

PA's pretty good about letting me run around with power tools. I just have to make him stop trying to find the "best way" and let me do it myself.

I headed that off early by having my family and friends give ME a lot of power tools as wedding presents. Alan always laughs though, because the drill bits are his, so I can't use MY drill without going through him.

I knew I shouldn't have gotten them for him, darn it.

That's why I never really learned how to fix my cars. My dad would come over to "teach" me and it would be fixed before I even knew he was there. In my case, though, it was mainly because he just saw a project at hand and wanted to get it done. I actually think he would have been glad to teach me, but I had to know he was actually on the premises first!
