Random Acts of Sharing
Sometimes I wish I knew how to make icons. Ones with flashy thingys and fadeouts and burnouts and brushes and filters and sayings and all kinds of things that I have absolutely no idea about.
But I can't. Instead, there are all these awesome people all around me who make icons. Wicked cool icons. Some that make you laugh, others, not so much. Some are so beautiful and vivid they literally leap off your flist and are forever embedded into your retinas, yet some are just so ridiculously simple but so fundamental that you can't remember a time where you could function without it to make your point.
When I first came to a place where icons were used, and learned the Netiquette for taking and using them - all of a sudden, it happened that having 100 icons spaces isn't enough. 200... 300... Not enough!
There are such a plethora of awesome, innovative and FREE FOR THE TAKING wonderful little computer graphic arts floating around fandom. The best part is it inspires others to do the same, until there are thousands and thousands of wee 100 x 100 40kb squares of awesome.
When I see someone make an "icon dump" of 100 little pieces of art they must have put some serious hours into, I'm always surprised that all they ask is you mention their name in your credit/keywords. Take as many as you can carry, and though they sometimes appear easily made, everyone knows the good ones are made with talent. And love. For fandom.
For some reason, when I click on that "Get Yer Icons Here" link, I always find this such an exciting thing; like [pick your holiday] morning, opening up your first gift.
Just saying, keep up the good work!
