with "when these colors run" i was thinking of my friend who is only 17 and in a neighborhood gang. Their gang color is purple. When you blend the colors of the american flag, you also get purple. i was thinking of how this war we are in is using up all this country's human service money, and its making life a lot more dangerous here in the US. Also, i was thinking of fear and bravery and whether fighting is a human need or caused by us being lied to and misinformed. with the police and the armed forces all being armed with guns, does it make sense to not allow civillians to have guns? that could be very dangerous if the government has all the power and weapons and the people have nothing. I see the world going in this dangerous direction... thats what the painting is about
