Oh fabulous! A real future!fic indeed, and thought provoking with it. Jack Sparrow meets WaterWorld (only much better!) - is a fascinating idea; with the law broken down and the seas rising, wouldn't that just be the perfect time and place for an immortal pirate to show up? And now you've got me thinking!

I loved, too, the notion of the children Elizabeth had born and how they must have aged and died. Heartbreaking.

As always, your writing is beautiful and makes me think.

(I still have some of your work to catch up on - I've been so busy recently with RL et al - but it's my birthday on Friday and I'm taking the day off, so will use the time to indulge in some J/E goodness! Squee!)

Waterworld, yeah *g* With no Kevin Costner. It would be quite the venue for a trio of immortal pirates.

Their children, yes - that would be the most painful price, wouldn't it? I imagined this as following December's Children. Some of them may have taken the water, too, but I didn't explore that here.

Thank you so much for the thinking and the wonderful comment! I'm so glad you enjoyed this one. And happy birthday! Have a lovely day off ♥

That's really incredibly beautiful. Every last bit of it. As always, you write them well, but I was more touched by the other descriptions, New Carson City, the angry seas, the threads of silver in Will's hair. I hardly know where to begin saying that you have a way with words, but your trickster is the guide to some very strange places, to new worlds over the horizon. Simply lovely.

Thank you so much! Strange new worlds, and they're very difficult to build :-) As I said, this didn't go where I thought it was going, at all. Sort of like sculpting with the grain of the wood, I guess.

I really appreciate the kind words, as always ♥

Oh wow, shower!sex FTW!!! Been looking forward to reading this forever and it was even better than I could hope.

It's amazing how you've made this setting work - two 18thc figures in a post-apocalyptic landscape, but the poetry of your opening lines just sets the scene beautifully. This line especially - in a liquid world, the ancient mariner is king. - is so beautiful and just makes this new world their own.

The line about them seeking each other out after a years absence, only for their paths to cross without touching, was both funny and touching, and very in keeping with the characters and their relationship.

So much to love about this fic, I could end up quoting the entire thing back to you. Suffice to say I don't think anyone can capture the beauty of J/E the way you can.

Shower sex - it had to be done. My raison d'etre, you know *g*

I'm so glad the setting worked for you. I can imagine them in the modern world pretty easily, since they're modern creations, after all, but I wanted to take them further than that. And of course Jack would make any world his own :-)

I doubt that they'd make it through four centuries without some separations, and some damage done.

I'm thrilled that you enjoyed this, and thank you so much for the thoughtful feedback ♥

Looking forward to those fics from you, and more R & M soon, plz?

You're right. Jack would certainly stamp his mark on any time they might live in, but it takes a deft hand to portray that convincingly. You've managed it wonderfully here.

The fics are definitely on their way just as soon as RL lets up a little (oh and now I have another idea buzzing around my head thanks to this prompt!).

You tell such pretty stories - I promise to believe them all.

*sigh* Beautiful. It's so interesting reading about them in present/future days. It's almost like vampirism. You'd surely get sick of the person you could be with and fall in love with new people who would eventually leave you. Ultimately, you would find the person that shared your longevity because that would cause the least amount of hurt. And you totally would love that person because they shared so much of you.

When he picks her up from the dirt and carries her back to the shower...*MELT* His dominance through caretaking is SO HOT!! And shower sex!? Thank you love. Another beautiful gift to us all. *wink*

Almost like vampires, yeah - but no sparkles. No. I think you're right about what they share, and it would be about them having to leave everyone else behind, every decade or so. Vampires.

Shower sex was originally the whole point, I confess :-) Needed the plumbing.

Thanks so much for reading and a lovely comment! *hugs*

That reminds me of a song I heard lately after not hearing it for ages, one that used to make me think of vampire couple Spike and Drusilla...The song is ironic, of course, not as cheerful as it seems at first...

"Anyone can see the road that they walk on is paved in gold
It's always summer, they never get cold
Never get hungry
Never get old and grey.

You can see their shadows wandering off somewhere
They won't make it home but they really don't care
They wanted the highway
They're happy they're there today."

PS, forgot to mention in my original comment that I loved Calypso's reaction to the dying seas.

I remember that song :-) No, not cheerful, blessings and curses and a whole lot left behind them.

I'm happy that liked Calypso's response - she would be very, very angry, I think. Thanks so much for letting me know!

This is wonderful in so many ways. I may yet write for this challenge...I still want to write the ad astra story...

Agree with comment above about the shower scene...unprecedented in the fandom! gotta love the possibilities presented by the Fountain.

Oh, please do write J/E in space! And stand by for an April 1st crack!challenge *g*

I finally finished reading Rum Diary, hence the shower sex - had to be done. Infinite possibilities in the Fountain, and I'd love to see more written to this prompt.

Thanks so much for commenting! ♥
