Oh... oh my god. That was beautiful, simply beautiful
The commodore was staring through the open window, watching the night sky fade to a dawn that would bring the return of loneliness.
That, to me, describe's James character perfectly. Poor man is always lonely, he didn't get the girl, his ship and commission was destroyed... poor guy.
Very great work, as usual. I loved every minute of it!!
He is, and I kind of fell in love with him while writing this. I think Jack would see their connection - both of them have paid dearly for being good men.
Jack saw a man who longed for freedom, for piracy, but could not find it charted in his soul. Saw a man of dangerous fragility, a man who chose to sail love’s merciless waters without a compass. He made a silent admission that perhaps he was the greater fool. Bedding both the man who had tried to kill him and the woman who had succeeded was surely the ultimate irony. There was not enough rum in this broken world to drown the flavour of that. -- Beautiful. I love the irony, and the way they draw comfort from each other. James fits in perfectly. Brava!
I knew this was yours!! No mistaking it...sensitivity and so observant of Jack.
Pain and pleasure, all at the same time. What a writer!!! I started highlight the best...but just started marking it all. The silent suffering of Gentleman Jack, wow!
I can only study and learn....and find some better make-up to hide the green.
This was lovely. I think so many people just look over James' character when he really does fit well into the whole thing.

That was just beautiful. It really captured James I think. Very well written.
I would go on but I'm afraid I don't have the time. Just know that I love your writing, words can't describe ::applauds::

His heroic gesture at the end of COTBP really grabbed me, and he suffered so for it in DMC. He does fit, and I'm hoping we'll see much more of him in AWE.

There is a gentle man, underneath his clothes, and his snark, and that razor's edge of darkness. Ah, Jack.
