Cloverfield Update Time

Jan 07, 2008 09:23

Back in July I wrote about the greatest movie marketing ever. This was JJ Abrams new movie that was untitled at the time, but soon after that it became “Cloverfield” I wrote about how they were planning on doing all kinds of secret viral marketing for the movie. Well they did, and it’s some kick ass stuff. Since we are now two weeks away ( Read more... )

jj abrams, cloverfield, marketing, movies, cool stuff

it's done by the same guy who does lost ( which is on soon again *squee*) so there is bound to be hidden messages _everywhere_

Yea JJ Abrams did a great job with all the hidden sites for Lost.

There is far more then what I listed, but they all seem to be more side plots and stories, I listed (what appears to be) all the main story portions.

Hasn't Slusho appeared in LOST as well?

I keep waiting for a LOST/ALIAS crossover or nod in the movie and planning, especially since LOST's new season hits 2 weeks after the movie.

Hmmmm, good question maybe it has.

Tagruato seems like it would be a great fit too, which them being kind of shady, and having oil rigs in the middle of the ocean.

"the greatest movie marketing ever"

Don't we have to wait for the opening to judge this?

I saw the commercial for this the other day, I am so excited! This is the kind of movie I love. I am very specifically not looking at a lot of the stuff you are posting because I want it to be a surprise. :)

Everything I put down will only add to the movie, there are no spoilers in any of it.

I'm really excited too.

i hate the commercials for this because it tells nothing of what the movie is about, but it looks like a godzilla or king kong remake. i guess i'm just a believer of if they cant even tell you what the movie is about in the trailer, there must not be enough movie in the first place.

Actually that was the point of the trailers, they didn't want to give away much. I read an interview where the director was saying how he doesn't like it that people know everything about a movie by the time it comes out.

He was thinking back to when he was a kid and would see a trailer and then say: "What the heck was that?" then going to the movie and being surprised and excited by not knowing exactly what to exspect.

it just reminds me of that horror movie that set itself up without giving anything away, and then it just ended up being about a stupid alligator. it didnt give anything away in the previews because there was no good plot in the first place.

With JJ Abrams doing it, I'm not worried about it not having a plot.

It is a monster movie, Abrams himself has said that. He said we wanted to create a monster that was American, much like Japan has Godzilla. He went to Japan with his kid and saw how excited he kid became when seeing all of the Godzilla toys, right then he knew he wanted to create a monster movie.

The other thing about this movie is I believe the whole thing is shot as if it's being seen through hand held cameras.
