I don't talk about it much, but in a previous life (as i think of it), I was in the Air Force.  Well, a lot of people probably know I was in the military, but I was a technical person.   I started out as what was called an "instrumentation mechanic" but what it boiled down to was I was an R&D electronics technician.  Instrumentation is used to ( Read more... )

Yeah for getting the power working again, in both instances.

There are several companies that do online backups of personal PCs. The ones I'm aware of are Carbonite and Mozy. Carbonite is $54.95 per year for unlimited storage. Mozy has a 2GB for free plan or a $4.95 per month plan for unlimited.

Best I can tell both have Mac clients.

And as a currently SysAdmin I'm in the same boat. I know I should have backups but the best I've managed is a pseudo-monthly manual backup to a separate disk drive. What's that they say about physician heal thyself? :-)

Isn't it the truth about the backups thing. :)

I'll have to check out the online backups. It's a good idea. I've also got programs here that could back it up to other hard drives, which I should also consider. It's not like storage capacity is that expensive anymore (especially compared to the old days!).

Saw this and thought of you -- cuz you are the only skiing poet I know! If you've written any poems about skiing (or have been meaning to), you should consider submitting!

CARVE: An Anthology of Ski and Snowboard poems, stories, and essays is open for submissions.

We are looking for poems, essays, and stories on alpine, telemark, backcountry, cross country, skate skiing and snowboarding. Reprints okay as long as the author retains the rights.

We are looking for work of the highest literary merit on both backcountry and resort skiing and riding.

Deadline: January 5, 2010. Please submit up to five poems and/or one short story or essay (prose up to 5,000 words), as well as a short bio (please include something about your skiing, as well as your writing, life), as a word document to Suzanne Roberts and Janet Smith at carveanthology@live.com

Wow, thank you! Simone's a snowboarder, but I don't know if she has any poems about it. Poets tend to not want to be out in the cold and snow, I guess. *grin*
