"Kick out the jams, MOTHERFUCKERS!" MC5 1:2

Lately, I've been having dreams about DJing again.

My mind's weird like that. The subconscious sometimes gets impatient with my ass-dragging conscious self and starts giving me uber-obvious dreams that have plotlines like "you're playing actual gigs with dancing people again and remember how happy it makes you and how much you miss the energy ( Read more... )

Love it but am a little confused. Back in the day, trance was the shift they played in the chill rooms of places like Rise, Robot Rise - like Zoviet France and Oval. I guess it's not the same anymore? Just means DJ worshippers?

Trance is this horrid, overcommercialized, insipid dreck that DJs like Tiesto play.

Come to think of it, the term "trance" is something else they've ruined. I am fond of the old stuff from the chillout rooms (time to listen to "the Ambient Art of Noise" again). It actually still lives on (the good stuff) - I've been getting some great promos lately of stuff that lives up to that old standard like the new Para One album... :)

Aren't you DJing at poetry in Cambridge? I suppose that is different than club DJing, now that I think about it.

Yeah, hence the "people dancing" part of my dream. I think I'm going to reach out and make plans for a trip to Memphis. One of my friends manages a bar and promised me a gig down there if I come to visit. I haven't visited them in a long time, and I really miss them.

I think the only worry I have with that is I might remember how much I like it down there and forget how much I *have* the hot, humid weather down there so much of the year.
