Sicko

Making use of my bfi membership myself and Rach went to the London Film Festival screening of Michael Moore's Sicko. Moore's target this time was to investigate the state of the health service in the USA. This was a superb documentary.

I haven't seen it, and don't really plan to because I'm not really all that big on Michael Moore. Not after what he did with Fahrenheit 9/11. (Sorry, but once you include people in a documentary without their permission, and deliberately cut down what certain people say to support what you believe, you've lost me.)

That said, I know a lot of people who've seen Sicko and whilst they say he makes actual, valid points about other healthcare systems there, he tends to ignore the downsides of such systems ( ... )

I agree that Farenheit 9/11 certainly is not Moore's best work - its an interesting piece of work but it certainly is not balanced.

What you say about the healthcare system is interesting but you might be interested to know that even with a system like ours lawsuits against our NHS is not uncommon here either so those problems woudn't go away even if the US had a free at the point of access health care system - wouldn't your still rather have that? I'm not sure it'll ever happen now that drug companies, and health insurance companies 'buy' influence over politicians. :-/
