Percy was never innocent, not even whilst he slept peacefully. It was true, these last few weeks - were they weeks? Possibly, it was difficult to tell - with Marguerite had been magnificent, and yet guilt weighed heavily on his shoulders. If she was so terrible, if she really had wanted the Scarlet Pimpernel captured, then why was she so gentle? Why was she so kind? Why did he still feel the need to pretend?

He woke up to the sounds of her crying. It was an odd thing to wake to, especially as he had reached for her in his half-slumber to rouse her and hold her to him. Instead when he raised his head and searched for his dear Margot he found her at the foot of their bed, absolutely wracked with tears. "Margot! Oh Margot, why are you crying, dearest? Wipe those tears now, no more sadness." Percy sat up and attempted to untangle himself from his bedsheets.

Unfortunately he was utterly naked, and had to attempt to cover himself with a bit of duvet as he scooted towards her. "What on earth is all this? Did I do something

The sound of his voice only made her cry more. Did he do something wrong, it seemed so silly of a question at this point. "It's me, Percy, I did---" her sobs didn't stop as she tried to get it out what she needed to say. She attempted to turn to him and laughed at the pictue he made before her and it only made her hate herself more. "I--I betrayed you, I betrayed the man I love, and the man I so admire for his bravery, his--" Marguerite tried to stop crying but she couldn't and hiccuped instead. She took his hand and moved his ring to the small flower.

"No wonder you hated me, you, you shooould!" She sobbed.

Naturally the man was in the middle of objecting to her self accusations. "Betrayed me? Never! Why I-"

But she had gone and turned his ring, and thus his identity was exposed. That little pimpernel seal glittered up from his ring and his eyes grew large and suddenly very much alarmed. No wonder the tears. "No, no, Marguerite, I've never hated you. Never, not for one moment!" Percy reached out to touch her shoulder, but he knew she'd find little comfort in the gesture. "I loved you all along, and I meant it. I always have. If I hated you, don't you think that keeping this from you would have been easier for me?"

She felt his hand on her shoulder and she wanted more than anything to have it be her comfort, her solice but she couldn't. "Why? When I gave you no reason to, would you love me? I, when I think of all the things I said to you, those horrible, cruel things to mock you, Percy," she closed her eyes for a moment to gather her thoughts. "I wanted to tell you Percy, tell you everything but when I'd look at you, your eyes--they, I couldn't do it. You seemed so sure in your decision that I tried to hurt you for it." Marguerite tried to explain.
