There were times when having a habit of talking to yourself had definite benefits. Sunshine had no sooner started muttering to herself as she started in on the days baking before she realized she'd just referred to her pantry as "the bung hole," and froze in horror ( Read more... )

Conversely, not talking to yourself (aloud) had certain drawbacks.

Fett's day started out much more normally than any of the other park residents, in that he clearly thought it was normal. He dressed and readied himself for yet another repeat of the same day, unaware of any disturbances around him. Upon leaving the Gallery he did pick up on a general increase in vocal volume for the surrounding area, but assumed nothing was out of the ordinary.

The "Closed" sign on Sunshine's door only prompted him to go in and speak with her; it was easier when she had no customers - no one stared.

So he opened the door and scanned for any sight of her.

Sunshine had just taken the pan out of the oven when she caught sight of Fett. She put it down abruptly and started waving at him violently (and silently), her hands still covered in oven mitts.

It indicated immediately to Fett that something was wrong. Unfortunately, the fact that she did it silently led him to believe that there was an intruder that she was trying to warn him way from.

He shoved his back up against the wall and raised his rifle to the ready, looking to her again for some indication of where the unwelcome visitor was situated.

She just about managed not to roll her eyes, but the waving grew more agitated, and gained a few go away, shoo! gestures.
