Don't even stop for a sigh, it doesn't help if you cry

It was late in the afternoon, getting on toward sundown, and Una Persson stood on the deck of the Miss Daisy, smoking a cigarette and leaning on the railing in an unselfconscious pose slightly reminiscent of Garbo. It would have been all very old-Hollywood apart from the cartoon silliness of the boat itself ( Read more... )

Always wandering about, that seemed to be Percy's lot here whilst trapped in the park. Marguerite was out and about; there was no real reason to hang about adventureland without the company of his dear wife. Booth had not paid him a visit in a few days, and he had not spoken to anyone else since his reunion with Margot. Perhaps even longer than that.

In his travels he came upon Miss Una, smoking and looking rather forlorn. Instead of making his usual noisy entrance, he quietly strolled towards the woman on the Miss Daisy and took his place beside her. Leaning over, he tipped his hat. "Hello."

It was a measure of how deep in thought Una was that she didn't notice Percy approach until he spoke. Her smile as she turned to him was a little late and a bit wobbly around the edges, but it was real and relieved. "Percy," she said. "I'm so glad to see you." She reached out to take his hand, as if to reassure herself that he was, in fact, there.

"Poor dear," he replied softly. There was much to her smile and he spent a few moments in his head attempting to pick it apart. When Una's hand reached for his he quickly removed his gloves, lacing his fingers through hers as a gesture of sympathy and steadfastness on his part. "I am glad to see you too." And indeed, he truly was, completely so. With so many missing....

"Mr. Adams has disappeared. His lady as well," he remarked, fairly solemnly in his approach.

She gave his hand a gentle, friendly squeeze. "Several have," she said. "My young friend Mr Echolls, who lived here, friends of his ..." She sighed. "People come and go all the time, of course, but so many of late; I-" She couldn't quite finish the sentence; she wasn't entirely sure how.

Some time later, a young clear voice called up from the sidewalk below, "Ahoy, the Miss Daisy!"

Psyche stood beneath, a whimsical smile just touching her lips.

Una raised her hand in greeting. "Ahoy, Lady Psyche," she called back.

"Of course." She made her way over to the gangway to greet Psyche as she came aboard. "It's good to see you."

"Kira." She waved. "It's good to see you."

He probably knew just as well as she did that the phrase was more than a garden-variety social pleasantry at this point.

"Yes," she said. "I'm sorry, Kira. I know you were good friends."

Sam had been looking for Una, actually, and he had just about given up on finding her when he was walking by the Miss Daisy, of all places, and spotted her up there.

"Hey Una," he called, waving a hand. "Mind if I come up?"

By this point in the evening, after chatting with Percy, Pscyhe, and Kira, Una had more or less decided that, what the hell, she might as well move her things over here to the Miss Daisy; it was comfortable and convenient to people she saw all the time anyway. She was turning to head back to Frontierland to collect her belongings when she saw Sam Winchester.

"Hello Sam. Of course, come on up. How are you?"

Sam clambered up and settled himself leaning against the rail.

"I'm okay," he said, sounding dubious. "But I uh, I wanted to talk to you about something... kinda serious. If you've got time?"

"I always have Time," she replied. Little joke. Very, very little. She let the smile slide off her face and she regarded Sam's expression curiously. "What is it? Perhaps we should go inside and sit down?" She gestured to the cabin.
