Ponder liked working in teams, provided he had a vague semblance of leadership, and after much experimenting with magic, all he'd managed to do was blow up a couple of things (it certainly felt like something was hindering his attempts to mess with universes, and that was disturbing in itself), he decided he needed help. All the help he could get.
