I've only read half the book, but I've spoiled myself from here to England and back, so here goes. This last book confirmed that I cannot stand Harry Potter. Can't stand him. I know he's a teenager, and they're not all that bright to begin with, and he's a boy, and they're not all that bright to begin with, either, but really. Get a clue.
I'm sad to hear that Slughorn is replacing Sevvie (that name will never not be funny). I was afraid of that when Dumbledore said "former head of Slytherin." Poor Severus.
The chapter with Snape's house is still my favoritest of all the chapters in the HP books. Wall-to-wall books! Eeeeee!
I know some Snape fans are upset by the latest developments (and I sort of have to wonder where they were for the past five books, because Snape is not and never has been a nice person), but I can't wait to see where it goes.
Oh, Snape's a right bastard. I love that. It makes his character much more interesting. ;)
I must admit, I freaked a bit on first read, before I calmed down and looked at it a bit more rationally. But I think the only reason I'd be disappointed is if book seven proves that not only is he a bastard, but he really IS an utterly evil bastard, simply because I think he's been set up to be much more complex and shades-of-gray than that, and it would be rather disappointing on a sheer character development sense. But.. Jo's the author, not me. ;)
As for Harry... He's.. Well, at least he's somewhat more mature than last book, but still. Yeah. Rather thick.
Oh, yeah, I'd be disappointed by that, too. His complexity is what makes him the most likeable character in the book. It's certainly not his personality. ;)
I'm a little nervous given how one-dimensional some of her characters are (I'm looking right at you, Dudley Dursley), but she's done well with Snape so far. The really upsetting thing is that, given recent developments, there's probably no way he's going to make it out of the next book alive. :(
Yeah. Adore Snape as a character, really wouldn't wanna have dinner with him.
And yeah. She has done a good job with Snape. I've pretty much resigned myself to him most likely dying in book seven, but, as I've put it to a few people, "It's going to be a heroic redemptive death that SAVES EVERYONE and makes Harry feel like a COMPLETE DOUCHE." *sage nod*
I have to agree with you, that Snape did it on Dumbledore's wish. And that R.A.B. is Regulus.
I have a theory/question, maybe you can give me your thoughts on it. At the end, when Harry and McGonagall enter what is now her office (Dumbledore's old office) and see his picture added to the rest of the headmaster and headmistress'...won't Harry still be able to talk to him? Just as Dumbledore spoke to them before his death?
Everything you just said about Sevvie-kins being not evil...I agree. Yeah. I've read the the theories too, and it just all makes more sense to me that way. I was not a happy camper after I finished the book, but now that I have it in my mind that he's not eeevil, I feel much better.
I definitely was not expecting him to be the HBP either. That one shocked me.
R.A.B. has to be Regulus.
And Scrimgour is just...a git.
As for DF...heh...yeah, I'm thinking that McGoogles isn't going to be so keen on Snape continuing to be in df_orderhq. *wink*
Yes. The theory-reading made me feel somuchbetter too, cuz, dude, I like Snape, and I wasn't entirely keen on having to COMPLETELY REVAMP his characterization. ;)
But yeah. Snape as HBP floored me.
And yeah. Something about Dumbledore's killer being in the Order... Not quite kosher. ;)
