So, all you crafty, sewey (is that even a real word), beating-material-into-submission-ey types out there, I need your advice.

I have this bad habit of getting holes in my jeans, only on the inner thigh. Not any other pants, just my jeans. Go figure *shrugs*.

Personally I'd not want to put a patch on the outside, especially at the inner thigh - not really a place I want to draw the eye to. So I'd go for an inside patch, then basically darned through the patch. You can buy denim coloured thread at Lincraft/Spotlight. For a patch I would use a section from an old pair of jeans (save a pair to cut up for scraps and patches, if you don't have one already), then stitch around the edge with a running stitch. Then stitch through the patch, back and forth - essentially darning - to secure and stabilise the hole and surrounds.

I used to have the same problem with jeans, and I would patch them as above, but using a machine.

I've never actually used an iron-on patch, so I'm not sure how they'd go. I suppose you could cover just the hole in a blending fabric and then iron the patch over that - so the edge of the patch connects with the jeans fabric, and just the centre is covered by the extra fabric.

Good luck!
