Yesterday in the shower (where I do my best thinking) I had an idea for a reception contest of sorts that is sure to delight half of my guests and utterly baffle the other half:

OUTSHINE THE BRIDE!

Essentially, it would be a costume contest for guests. Particularly if we have it at the theatre, this would give our glam friends the opportunity to ( Read more... )

Well I'm engaged to my best friend but you can certainly be among the second tier. ;)

It would be a fun wedding to attend......but, playing devils advocate here - make sure you will be happy with it closer to the time. I am so very embarrassed that my easy going "wear whatever you want" self was totally shocked when all of a sudden a couple of weeks ago I got very territorial about my role in the wedding. Gold was my colour, the shoes I had found were MY shoes, I am the bride.......

It totally hit me off centre as it very far removed from my normal personality. I was embarrassed and shocked at the same time and it took a while to realise why I felt that way. Big long story, hard fought battle to get this far and realisation of how much this wedding really means to me.

This is worthwhile consideration. Like, several of my lady friends are thinner/more conventionally attractive than I am. If I don't lose weight or if I feel particularly puffy on my wedding day, am I going to be self-conscious and resentful of anyone who I think looks prettier?

I don't *think* so, but I definitely need to give that some brain space. And I also need to remember that "Outshine the Bride" isn't a beauty contest for who is prettier than the bride; it's just poking fun at the outfit/glam factor. I want people to dress up and have fun, and I think I'm confident enough to know that I'll stand out and look cute no matter what. And I'd rather divide up the whole attention-getting bit ANYWAY, because I get overwhelmed easily in crowds!

embarrassingly enough mine was the fact that my bridesmaid loved the shoes I had brought and asked me to get her some. Her and I have been friends since the day she was born and I love her like a sister so the next day I went into the shoe shop and brought her a pair.
Walking back to work and all of a sudden my brain decided "these are my shoes, I am the bride, these are the brides shoes" so I took them back and text her to say they didn't have any in her size.

I have no idea where it came from and for the rest of the day I felt like Queen Bitch. Now I'm too embarrassed to go back and buy her a pair as how do I say they magically appeared in her size.

That's an awesome idea... That would be really fun and memorable. And I agree that it's fucked up, I mean, boys rarely wear anything but their favorite tee shirt and if you're lucky pants that don't have holes in them... It's a bigger deal for them to be dressed up then us girls (usually). I have no idea what my fiance is going to be wearing, he's picking it out. He's really into the wedding thing, which I found surprising.

Laurie has been surprising and charming me with what parts of the wedding she wants to be more traditional. Like, she'll wear a tux (she'll have to bind her boobs to do it, but she wants to wear a tux). She wants toasts, maybe even a cake-cutting (depending on what dessert we end up getting). And she's not opposed to having my dad walk me down the aisle (not 100% sure we'll do that, but we might - and my dad would be honored, I'm sure).

So, yay for wedding-involved fiances! (I'm still the main wedding geek in the household right now, though. LOL.)

Haha. I'm definitely the wedding geek, too. But I was happily surprised when Andy wanted to participate. I kinda knew he would, though. Since it's my second marriage I was up for just going to Vegas and getting it over with simply and just having stupid fun with it. But he was really offended since it's his first (and only he says, we'll see about that! haha, jk...)

Get a sash and tiara for the winner?

That would be especially funny if the winner was male and/or masculine-identified. Hee!
