know some good instructions on how to make a rag rug? I really would prefer a weaving method as I can't crochet but so far I haven't been able to find anything.
The first time I made a rag-rug, I just braided the strands and then used a needle and thread to sew the breads together. It was fairly quick, but I didn't use the right thread (not sturdy enough) so it came apart. I will admit, the second time I made it, I crocheted.
Did you have any luck getting a rag rug together? That's pretty much what we make on the farm I'm on right now. We mostly shred denim into one and a quarter inch strips, sew them together at the end, slip them so they pass through the yarn set ups in the loom, etc. but I mostly process the denim so one of my bosses can do the actually weaving. If you still need good directions you can use, I can look through the books here for you.
With out a loom, I think the first person who posted a reply has the best model to make a rug. If you aren't too concerned about the width, or don't mind sewing thinner bands together, you can tray tablet weaving around the rag strips: primitive.org/weaving.htm. Rag rugs are a great way to recycle fabric for sure. Sometimes I use the short strips to seperate bracelets on a card weaving set up I've got going.
