Screen printing and fabric paint

Dec 15, 2006 18:29

So I want to learn how do simple at home screen printing. I already found one with an embroidery hoop and modpodge, and that turn out to be a blob.
If you know any tutorials for easy, cheap, and nice screen printing, let me know!

I also have heard about just using a stencil with like speedball paint, has anyone tried that? Does it work well?

i want to do screenprinting, too. i just wonder if they sell some of the products at walmart (i'm not near a hobby lobby right now).

currently i use stencils and fabric paint for shirts. it turns out really well. ive been doing this for about four years now.

so you have been using fabric paint and stencils? Why the switch then? Is one better then the other?

FYI walmart doesn't have anything I think. Try looking at their site or calling them

ive always been using fabric paint & stencils. i just "threshold" a picture on my computer, making it strickly black & white. then i use an exacto knife to cut out the black part. i spray the back of the stencil with spray adhesive then paint over it with "acrylic paint." the paint is great. i get it from hobby lobby (~50 cents) when i'm at college.

another option for the stencil is freezer paper. One side is waxy so you print the image on the plain side, cut with exacto knife and iron onto fabric wax side down until it sticks. Makes it alot easier to get really crisp lines.

stenciling is cheaper & easier, but the advantage of screen printing is that you can have more complicated images. Each layer has to be one color still, yes, but screen prints can be incredibly detailed while stencils have to have few to no "islands" in them.

I've been stenciling for like way too long. You can check out my community to look at results, find Q&A, etc.
