New to the comm and cloth pads in general :)

Hey all! My name's Melissa and I'm new to cloth pads. I use a cup but I'd been looking into cloth pads for a while, for those times when I needed back-up or just didn't want to use my cup. I finally bought some moonpads from epicerma on Etsy last night (I can't wait for them to get here!) but the more I read this community, the more I wanted to try my hand at making my own. So I went to my local Fabricville tonight, and I thought I'd share the treasures I came home with:

First, my fabrics. Navy blue terry cloth, orange anti-pill fleece, then navy blue and patterned flannelette (which is 100% cotton, how confusing). I LOVE the skull fabric, partly because it's red and partly because it's ADORABLE. (The writing says Ghost Train in orange, Spook Central in blue, and The Skull Express in a sort of khaki green. Sooo cute.)

And since I don't have a snap press and I wasn't sure about banging around with a hammer, I bought these:

I couldn't help myself! More skulls! And it's not like I have an obsession with skulls or anything, I don't know what came over me. I just thought that there was something funny about the skulls-and-blood combo.

Now since I don't have a machine right now, I'm going to have to sew by hand. I haven't started a sewing project in years (!!!) so we'll see how that turns out. I've been looking at patterns all day and I think I'm going to draft one of my own, and hopefully my first pad will turn out nicely. If y'all have any tips or links or anything that might help me, feel free to share! Now I'm off to wash my fabrics!

EDIT: Also, forgot to add - I'm not sure how many times I should prewash my fabrics. I just did a wash in hot water with all of them, do I need to do a few more cycles for ALL the fabrics or just the terry cloth (and the fleece, maybe)? How many cycles would be recommended? Thanks again!
