Yesterday, I mentioned that I was interested in knowing some of the etymology of certain swear words and offensive phrases, meaning that I would like to know how these words originated. Stephanie Turza jumped in to say that she didn't think that etymology was the right word. She thought that that might be the study of insects. I said that I was ( Read more... )

you're making it sound like Stephanie was incredibly competitive about this point. I don't think she gave it a second thought after that brief conversation.

Sorry, I know Stephanie wasn't really being competitive about it. Just the fact that she used the word "lose" maybe start thinking about it. Of course this actual incident was a completely small matter, and I'm sure most of us forgot about it shortly after it happened. It just provided a bit of food for thought for me, and I figured I'd write a little entry about it.

This post was also inspired by a conversation I had with my dad about how we are both bad at figuring out how people feel about competition. I just chose to use this small incident as an example to make my point and talk about what I've been thinking about.

Also, Stephanie says that she actually just misheard me, which makes things rediculous, but whatever.

She might not have thought much about it then, but she was freaking out when it came up at Ryan's. Calling names and randomly telling off Peck.

I love you too, Stephanie!

I really don't want you to be upset over this. It's a pretty small thing anyway, I was just posting some of my thoughts.

The other reason I wanted to get a dictionary is that I know that your vocabulary is better than mine, and I would have been surprised if you didn't know a word. And I wasn't 100% sure of myself either. Though it sounds like you just misheard me, so it turns out that we both knew the correct answer to begin with.
