I have this theory and after reading your post I thought I'd run it by you. For my entire life, doctors have been telling people to eat better and get their exercise, but their patients generally didn't. Then the "natural health" movement comes along and gives the same advice, and their people listen because the movement also provides a cultural matrix to reinforce the healthy living, while doctors do not remove people from the capitalist matrix, so are as doomed to futility as combat surgeons in war time.

I think that makes sense, although I would go a bit further and say that the current medical paradigm and healthy living are mutually exclusive. Patients who eat well and exercise in the framework of a holistic lifestyle don't generally bring in much revenue.

I feel the same way every time I look at the weight machines in the gyms. They bring in more revenue, but free weights are better for people.
