For fans of flamboyantly dressed ninjas only XD

.

Hm... I guess the book I'm bringing today is going to interest maybe... three people here...? ^^' Oh, well, I'm one of these three, so you have no choice. ;D

Remember "Samurai Warriors" vel "Sengoku Musou"? That game like Sengoku Basara, but with less fun and more costumes? If you don't, maybe you should stop reading here. ;D

I still haven't played it, but I'm still fond of some of the characters, especially two the most ornately dressed ninjas in the world: Fuuma Kotarou and Hattori Hanzou.

As you may remember, they are the main characters in one of my most beloved doujinshis, "Depth of underskin" by GD Mechano. I was searching for months in hope of finding another doujinshi with this pair, but all I ever found was something like three titles, one of them a novel, one some absurd gag story and all of them looking utterly awful. I gave up finally and accepted (with some pain) that this was a one time thing and I'll never find another book with those two that would be... well, at least decent.

But recently I've read "Depth..." again and just for the heck of it checked Yahoo auctions.

And I found this:

Didn't look very promising, I admit, but the fandom was right, the characters too, which is so rare by itself, that I decided to buy it.

And I didn't regeret it. It's very short, no yaoi, the story nowhere near as twisted as in "Depth...", but it has my fancily dressed ninjas looking NICE in it and that's enough for me. ;D

The book is focused on Fuuma. It's very short, with a story based on quite an original idea (a bit weird maybe), and characters acting like themselves (with Fuuma's obligatory speeches about chaos and so on ;), so happily no OOC.

The best thing about this book is art. Really pretty, especially Fuuma gets a lot of the artist's attention, she must be a real fan, drawing him with his hair flying and elaborate costume drawn out carefully to the smallest detail. ^^

Anyway if you are Fuuma's fan too, you should give this book a try. ^^

A few technical notes:

- the author likes spreading pictures on two pages and I can't do decent spreads with my skills and my old, old version of Photoshop, so the scanlation is a bit crude at times. ^^'

- Almost the whole book is written in various forms of hand writing, with most of the dialogues in some kind of cursive, the easier kind, I admit, not the one where the whole sentence is basicly just one squiggly line. ^^' But still, it's CURSIVE and I had a hard time trying to decipher some of the phrases... Although it was fun too. And in original the text looks really beautiful. I tried to find matching English fonts and I did find one really fitting for the main text, but it was almost as illegible as Japanese one, so I decided on something less pretty, but simpler. ^^

- There is also a two page gag story at the end of the book, which I didn't scanlate. Sorry, I don't feel well-versed enough in the fandom to translate a parody. ;P

- TRANSLATOR's note: I believe that by "Tanuki" mentioned at some point, Fuuma means Ieyasu and by "the Fourth" his predecessor (since he's the fifth one of that name). If I'm wrong, please, correct me. ^^

And for the end a little enticement:

The book was worth its money if only for this picture. <3

(I love how he looks basicly the same, only has less plaits, less face paint/tatoos, less armor and even smaller earrings. XD So cute. Apparently it all grew together with him xD)
