Watanuki nodded, "Yeah...I just need some rest...one of the nurses said the doctor would talk to me in the morning..." He fell backwards into the pillows and winced a little as the pain in his chest flared up again. He needed to remember to talk to the doctor about that too.

"...yeah. He wasn't as bad off as me...so he snuck out of bed I guess..." He smiled a little, "He doesn't like staying put..."

"I figured..."

She tried to smile again, but it was little more than a twitch of her lips.

"You seem distracted..." she added. She was curious about what they'd talked about, but she couldn't bring herself to press further.

Placing the crane on the bedside table, Watanuki clasped his hands in his lap. "Doumeki...he...he won't open up to me...even though he says we're good friends. Maybe I've been pushing him for answers lately, but it seems a little unfair how much he knows about me, my likes, dislikes...that sort of thing, when I only know a few things about him."

He leaned back against the head board, "I know that something's been bothering him lately, but he won't tell me what it is..."

Haku winced, quickly looking away in hopes that he wouldn't see her chew on her lower lip nervously. She knew why, even if it was something Doumeki hadn't ever admitted out loud. She felt bad for both of them, and didn't fully understand why Doumeki couldn't just come out and say it himself.

But she also knew it wasn't her place to say it for him, so she fumbled for a comment.

"M-maybe he's just... a really private person... ?"

He could tell that Yowane-san wanted to say something else...but didn't for some reason.

"...he is...but this is...I don't know...I thought that maybe he was mad at me...he's been acting really strange lately."

"He's not!" she blurted out without thinking. Just as quickly as the words left her, she snapped her mouth shut, biting back a swear of annoyance at herself, her cheeks flushing.

"I-I mean... he doesn't have a reason to, does he? You haven't done anything wrong..."

"...?" Watanuki raised an eyebrow. "Um...well he said he wasn't mad at me...do you know why he's been acting weird?"

"..."

Haku fidgeted, tugging on her hair and twisting it nervously around her fingers, far too tight to be comfortable.
