NAME: Konata Izumi
LEVEL: 1.2
CLASS: Japanese High School Girltaku
EQUIPPED WITH: Ahoge, Take it! Sailor Uniform
HP: 200/200
ALL STATS: \(=ω=.)/

"And that's why we need to do this, even though you can go all the way up to Adult," Konata was saying as she walked up to the makeshift training area.

"... what's the 0.2 for?" Vi-Elecmon was, of course, padding alongside her tamer.

"For leeching EXP off of that duck battle." Konata paused and scratched at her cheek. "... though it might not count since he ran away and all," she added with an easy shrug. "Maybe it was a scripted battle...?"

Vi rolled her eyes and let it go. The digimon been with Konata long enough to pick up on her moods- and the high school girl was, beneath her usual lackadaisical facade, pretty darned nervous. That last battle HAD shaken them both up, after all...

"Greens?" Vi-Elecmon blinked. "What do vegetables have to do with anything?"

"Don't worry about the small details, Vi," Konata replied. "It's gamer language. I think." She turned back to the Forsaken warlock and nodded. "Ctrl-N, right? Okay..."

Purely on reflex, her left hand came back up and ghosted out the command on an imaginary keyboard. A floating window popped into existence almost immediately; though the entire thing had a distinctly pixelated look to it, it was unmistakeably the talents panel for Konata Izumi, Level 10.2 Japanese High School Girltaku.

"Whoa! I did it!" There were STARS in Konata's eyes as the implications of this set in. "I'm a full-fledged PC now!"

"... 'Otaku', 'Tamer', and 'Digi-Soul'?" Vi-Elecmon read out loud as she looked at the tabs. Her left eyelid twitched. "Yggdrasil save us all," she muttered.

Jarrod grinned. "Nice! You're getting the hang of this ( ... )

Vi-Elecmon's eyes glazed over after about five seconds of gamer lingo. Konata, however, took in all the expository text like a sponge. "So equipment is color-coded by quality? That's convenient." She sighed. "But that's got to lead to a lot of bragging between players, huh..."

Konata perked right back up at the mention of Legendaries. "Special weapons? Like the Leviathan Sword that I got as a drop in the game I'm playing? Wow..." she breathed, looking suitably impressed as Jarrod listed off all the procs that he'd get from the weapon in the dressing room window.

... and then Jarrod kept listing the procs. Konata blinked for a moment. "... okay, so the LevaKen is probably an Epic-level weapon. Your home sounds like a pretty chaotic place," she added.

Jarrod nodded. "Yep, people are always bragging about the latest epic they found laying around in a dungeon. And yeah, this sucker is a Legendary Weapon. Though I can't equip it. This place won't let me for some reason. Probably too powerful."

Jarrod shrugged. "Azeroth was, well is, built on war. I mean, everywhere we go it's the same old thing. We need to fight to stay alive against the numerous enemies who are trying to crush normal people like me into dust."

"Wait, Yggdrasil isn't letting you equip something that could help win the game?" Konata tilted her head and thought on that. "... well, okay, it makes a better story if everything's balanced, but still, it doesn't seem right.

"... and when I said 'chaotic,' I was talking about the sword being able to make a grizzly bear eat its victim's favorite great-aunt, but..." Konata paused. No, she probably shouldn't say 'that sounds like it would make a fun game.' "... you have it pretty tough back home, huh?"

stupidly_dead May 3 2009, 03:45:54 UTC
"Yeah it's tough. I mean, it's bad enough I'm an Undead and half the known world hates all of us. I mean between the Alliance idiots, the Horde idiots, the Scarlet Crusade who would like nothing to wipe the entire world clean of anything but humans, the Lich King..." Jarrod shrugged. "I suppose you have to be tough to live in the world of warcraft."

"ing." added Jarrod.

"... that right there seems more nuanced than most Japanese MMOs," Konata deadpanned. WoW sounded pretty interesting, but it didn't sound like it was nearly animesque enough for her tastes. "Still... um, with a sword like that, it doesn't sound like you'll have TOO many problems?"

Jarrod laughed, embarrassed. "Well, the truth is..."

"Master can't equip it," explained Laz. "He's a clothie and that's a two handed sword. He doesn't have the upper body strength NOR the training to even carry it unshrunk from his bags."

"Yeah, that's it. Thanks Laz." Emoed Jarrod. "And in all, we had no Warriors in the guild who wanted it, so they just sort of said "give it to the warlock". I was surprised of course, but the Rogues were using Outland stuff by now."

"The classic case of no one being around to appreciate a good drop when it actually drops, huh?" Konata chuckled. "Man, if I had a Zenny for every time that's happened..."

"... what, you only get one talent point?" Vi-Elecmon grumbled from where she was reading Konata's still-open status window.

"Ah, speaking of which..." Konata pointed at the talents screen. "... what'm I supposed to do with that?"

"Ah, well lets see..."

Jarrod inspected it and he grinned. "You're in luck, you've got the basic makeup for a unique class. Must have been that arcane magic I gave you. Thus being said, everyon starts off with a few basic spells which I'll teach you later. For now? Put your first point into your first talent tier. Just tap it."

Helpfully, he grasped the screen and pulled it down to Konata.

Konata wasn't THAT short! It wasn't like-

... oh, wait, right, the first-tier talents were at the TOP of the screen. She accepted his help without comment, and focused on the talents themselves instead. "Hmmmm... a unique class, huh?" Konata's finger hovered over the various first-tiers, paused over one in particular- and tapped it.

Japanese High School Girltaku (1/0/0)
Otaku talent tree, Tier 1
Meta Knowledge (1/3): Whenever a known Anime/Manga, Game or Light Novel character attacks you, you gain an additional 3% chance to Parry and Dodge for the duration of the battle. Stacks three times.

"It'll be pretty helpful in a place like this," Konata explained with a grin.

Vi-Elecmon sighed. "Is tapping a point onto a floating panel REALLY going to help you in a fight?"

"If you don't believe me, look at your status screen. It should increase a bit of her dodge rating," pointed out Jarrod. "After all, watch this."

He brought up his own, dumped his talent points and aimed at a barrel. "This is Rank 12 Immolate, a powerful warlock spell," he said, his hands crackling with fire. He cast it on the barrel and it started to burn. "Now then, normally that would cause, oh, a couple thousand points. But when I respec into Destruction..."

Jarrod brought up his talent points and placed the scree side by side and demonstrated as he pushed talents, adding more and more into destruction. His abilities went up exponentially with each press. After all 73 points were used, he confirmed the changes and then said, "Watch this now."

Turning to the smoking barrel, he proclaimed, "IMMOLATE!"

The barrel practically exploded from the heat, the water superheating like a ruptured boiler. "Pretty cool huh?"

Konata watched the before-and-after-talent-respeccing with interest, nodding appreciatively. "So they DO make a pretty big difference, don't they," the high schooler mused, glancing over at her talent tree and taking note of her own deep-tree talents.

Meanwhile, Vi-Elecmon's face went pale as she stared at the remains of the barrel. After a moment, she turned back to Jarrod, pointing at the warlock's handiwork. "... Konata's not going to be able to do something like that, right? Right!?"

"Yee-ep, quite a difference. You go from an average hitting guy to, well, a tiny god." he chuckled at that.

Turning to Vi-Elecmon, he added, "She still needs to develop her powers at any rate. Talent Trees become more accessible with the new powers you develop at any god-given time. Usually they're taught to someone but we're sorely lacking class trainers."

"I take offense to the 'tiny' part." Konata held up a finger and grinned. "It's 'fun-sized'."

"... you really shouldn't be proud of something like that," Vi-Elecmon deadpanned back at Konata before turning back to stare at Jarrod. "You can't be telling me that she's going to be developing more of THOSE kinds of powers as time goes on?"

"I thought you wanted me to be more of the shonen protagonist type?" Konata interjected.

"Yeah, but not THAT much!" Vi-Elecmon retorted, pointing back to the ruins of the barrel.

"And if someone like that cartoon duck throws bombs at me while you're busy holding off his partner? If I can't fend for myself, Vi..."

THAT stopped Vi cold. "... uh."
