Unfortunately, Ben, it seemed fate wouldn't be content to grant you time alone, because Kevin stepped out from behind a tree.

"Hey there, Tennyson," said the mutant, sounding a bit more friendly than usual. "Got a minute, my main man?"

Ben jumped at Kevin's sudden appearance. He didn't quite register Kevin's friendly tone, as he was too caught up in being freaked out over getting surprised to be properly freaked out over the attitude.

"Damn, you nearly gave me a heart attack!" he cried.

"Aw... sorry about that, dude," he said. "Didn't mean to scare ya!"

Okay, now Ben caught it. He raised an eyebrow as his weirdness-instincts went into overdrive.

"No teasing? You just apologized? Are you feeling okay?"
