I'm so very confused! I didn't realize people had such a problem with loving embraces! I thought everyone enjoyed being hugged and held, and even kissed and petted! Wait ...have I been doing this whole socializing thing wrong the whole time? I could just cry if I have and no one told me

...Some people do, some people do not. It's just personal preference, Cissus, nothing to fret over.

Personally, I do not mind those sorts of things, though if someone were quite shy, they might feel uncomfortable with it.

Like Juliet said, I think asking is all you gotta do Cissus. I can think of a lot of people who like hugs, but would definitely rather be asked first if it's someone you don't know.
