Post, the third

Living in the park is nice, and I love the pretty dresses Smoke helped me buy, but what I'm still confused about is the job situation. I was considering getting a job on the Farm, working with the crops or the animals, then I heard that there's a Housekeeping area and I'm good at cleaning, but then I thought maybe I could be an Adventurer because ( Read more... )

jobs, smoke, park, dancing and playing, scatterbrained, friends

[Said unusual hair colour had proven handy for meeting up new people, at least. Wearing a pink shirt with sleeves rolled-up and denim trousers, Stellaris stands around near the sturdy bridge between Captain Planet and Stuff Inc. She scribbles a grocery list to pass time while occasionally looking up for anyone coming her way.]

[As she approached the bridge that Stellaris had specified for them to meet at, Cissus was pretty sure she wouldn't have any problems spotting a woman with lavender hair. Thankfully, she was right, and smiled brightly as she made her way over to where the other woman was standing. Writing on her board, she held it up.]

Hello, are you Stellaris? I'm Cissus, here to learn about Housekeeping!

[From the corner of her eyes, Stellaris noticed a figure approaching. When she took a better look, she quickly deduced that it was likely Cissus. The bright smile matched the mood of her words in the journals. Stellaris smiled, about to greet the newcomer when the other woman took out her board and started to write.

Oh.

A person with a speech impairment? It would be her first time meeting one.]

Hello! Yes, I am Stellaris. It's very nice to meet you.

[Admittedly, Cissus had forgotten to mention her speech impairment since to her it wasn't as big a deal as others might find it. Besides, she had mentioned it before and wasn't sure who knew and who didn't. Either way, she didn't think it would be a problem.

Hopefully.

At least she figured it wouldn't. People here hadn't minded so far.]

It's very nice to meet you.

[She hoped the repeating wouldn't confuse the other woman.]

[Um. Cissus answered? So she could speak after all, so why-]

I hope finding the way wasn't too troublesome for you.

[Still smiling, she nodded as she reflexively repeated the tail end of Stellaris' statement, writing as she did.]

Troublesome for you.

No, it was easy to find, you give good directions!

[Her smile dropped for a second, confused. She flipped to the other side of the normal paper the grocery list was scribbled on and wrote:]

Pardon me, would you prefer if I communicate through writing rather than speaking?

[It took her a second to realize that her new friend must not know of her impediment. Shaking her head, she wrote:]

I'm sorry, I should explain. I can't speak, I can only repeat things. My writing is not impaired though.

[It sounded like a strange affliction, but in this setting, where oddities were the norm, Stellaris quickly set aside further questions lest she sounded like an interrogator. Cissus seemed nice enough and she did not want to upset someone she still needed to know better. She wrote a new line below her previous.]

You don't need to apologize. As long as we have a way to understand each other, it is good.

Shall we go, now?

[Smiling to reassure the other woman, Stellaris gestured with a head tilt towards the direction of a nearby huge, industrial-looking building-the Housekeeping headquarters.]

[It was a strange condition, one that she wished she knew why she had. It had yet to cause a big problem, but Cissus was still frustrated by it on a nearly daily basis. There were so many things she wished she could just actually say.]

Alright, thank you.

Go, now?

[Smiling in return, Cissus started walking in the direction Stellaris indicated, her eyes widening as the building came into view.]

[What awaited them behind the main door was a hallway flanked by two rows of supply closets. The inside of the building was dimly-lit, but spotlessly clean. That particular hallway smelled a little like pine. Stellaris wrote in her paper, then pointed at one side after another.]

These are the janitor's closets, where we keep cleaning supplies and the more bulk equipment.

By the way, what interests you about Housekeeping?

[Looking around as the entered, Cissus found the whole place to be very neat and organized. She enjoyed the smell of cleaning products in the air.]

There's a lot of supplies in here!

I like the idea of helping to keep everything clean and fresh!

[Stellaris nodded appreciatively. Not many potential Housekeeping applicants showed that kind of enthusiasm. They receive occasional people inquiring about the position due to the remuneration and housing benefits, but most shirked upon learning the job descriptions. She then opened one of the closets.]

Pardon me for not writing, this is quicker. [She started pointing out the supplies.] Broom, mop, vacuum cleaner, brush, soaps, and wood polish.

[And then she returns to the paper and pen.] Do you feel familiar about how to use these supplies? One of our tasks is cleaning people's houses in Square Zero.

[Cissus wasn't concerned with things like housing or renumeration; she had already decided she was living in the park and had set to work constructing a small place of her own there. What she wanted was a job where she felt useful and valued.]

This is quicker. [She repeated, listening as Stellaris pointed out supplies.] Soaps, and wood polish...

[She smiled at the question, nodding.] The supplies seem familiar, and I am sure I know how to clean.

Good! If you choose to apply, the Supervisor would give you a test to see if you can do tasks. There will be training for those not used to some equipments, though.

[Stellaris gestured at Cissus to come along until they reached the end of the hallway, where they found two doors. She opened one to reveal a spacious room with brown and yellow colour scheme. Rows of industrial washing machines lined on one side and ironing boards on the other. She waved at a few workers currently sitting around, chatting away the last few minutes of their lunch break.]

Another task of ours is collecting dirty laundry from houses and washing them in this laundromat.

I don't mind taking a test, it can't be all that hard.

[Cissus followed behind Stellaris, looking into the room when she opened the doors. Waving at the workers, she smiled brightly as she continued to listen.]

That sounds easy enough!
